TITLE: Digital Media Work Placement
BRIEF DESCRIPTION:This module will provide students with the opportunity to gain a useful experience of the working environment in a digital media setting. It will enable students to undertake a work-based project and to demonstrate the ability to operate effectively in a professional work environment.
PREREQUISITE: None
ASSESSMENT: Presentation (30%)+Report (70%)

Module aims
To provide students with the opportunity to gain useful experience of the working environment in a digital media setting
To enable students to undertake a work-based project
To enhance and extend the student's academic and professional skills by tackling real life problems in the workplace
Syllabus
Pre-placement induction sessions introduce students to the requirements and demands of work placement, assists them in the diagnosis of their abilities; helps them make decisions about suitable work areas; and ensures they produce a suitable CV for placement applications.
At the start of the placement the student, employer and placement tutor agree a learning and assessment contract identifying and specifying the:
_task(s) involved in the placement;
_learning outcomes to be developed and demonstrated, together with the associated assessment criteria;
_learning opportunities for the development of the expected outcomes;
_ evidence required to demonstrate attainment of the outcomes.
_a debriefing session, on completion of the placement, enables the student to reflect on their learning and the experiences gained from the placement and to develop action learning plans for the future.

Students must contact the Employability Unit before undertaking this module
The placement will be agreed with the tutor, it may take the form of a digital media project developed for ad with a client or of placement within an organisation.
Students will also attend workshops to
_prepare their CVs
_support them in the search for a placement
_agree their learning contract
_de-brief and reflect on their experiences.

Assessment strategy
The assessment process is both formative and summative.
Summative assessment:
A) A Presentation - This component of assessment is designed to test the student's ability to summarize their experience on the placement, to analyse the key aspects pf the placements and/or project developed during the placement and to present findings to an audience. Due in week 12. Weighting 30%
B) A 3,000 word Report (the Report might include evidence of a project - when applicable - to be delivered on CD or other media). This component of assessment is designed to test the student's ability to critically review their experience on the placement, to demonstrate the ability to plan and manage the placement experience, to reflect on and learn from their experience, to evaluate success and failures and to make suggestion for improvements on their performance. Due in week 14. Weighting 70%
Formative assessment:
Formative assessment also includes employer comments and observations during the placement period. The employer will be asked to provide a short report on the student's performance and attendance.
