Module summary
This module equips digital media students with skills in how to lead on the application of a digital media strategy and consult on the best way to enact that strategy in a range of digital media contexts, economies and ecologies. Highlighting the use of digital media technologies and digital media applications for business and society, this module will equip students with the requisite skills, including through the application of the latest trends (e.g. generative artificial intelligence). The module also focuses on best practices in digital media consultancy and on how to develop digital media strategies for a real- world client. Students’ will evaluate and analyse current and future trends in the digital media industries and identify the application of communication technology to a range of organisations. Students will learn to evaluate and address the needs of a client group and produce e-solutions appropriate for such needs. Students will gain hands- on practical experience of different types of organisations and how to enact a digital media strategy appropriate to the client brief.
The module aims are to:
- Equip students with analytical skills to critically assess contemporary digital media strategy issues
- Interpret emerging trends within the digital media landscape.
- Foster the ability to create comprehensive digital media strategies
- Articulate insightful consultancy information that drive sector- specific industry innovation.

This module will be delivered through a combination of modes of delivery, including formal lectures, seminars, workshops, and individual coursework. The mixed-mode module delivery will be used to encourage a supportive environment for individual and peer-group learning. A blended learning strategy will be employed to enhance the learning experience, facilitate communication between students and tutors and develop collaboration among students. The Virtual Learning Environment (VLE: Weblearn) will be used as a platform to support online activities including evaluation of online resources, access to materials and electronic reading packs. The VLE will also be used to facilitate assessment and related feedback, as well as a tool to integrate useful online learning materials provided by research institutions, academic publications, professional organisations, and other relevant sources.
