Module summary
The aim of this module is to help you gain knowledge and understanding of your subject area, and will allow you to develop skills which will be of use at higher levels. You will be conducting research into a topic relating to your course title, and to report your findings accordingly. The overall aim of this module is to provide you with fundamental subject-specific knowledge and relevant skills.

Balance of independent study and scheduled teaching activity
Students will be provided with a topic to work on, and will be briefed on research methods, resources, how to reference sources, plagiarism, ultimately leading to students being fully prepared to report their findings in a professional manner. (12h). They will also have an opportunity to reflect on the process, and on the skills they are acquire and develop as they progress. They will be working independently of scheduled teaching activity for a significant portion of the module, reporting to their supervisors regularly (124h).
Learning outcomes
LO1: Research and collect information on a specific scientific topic and, working with your supervisor, use this to plan a programme of work directed to a specific aim.
LO2: Reflect upon how the experience relates to your personal, career and academic development, particularly with regard to the development of technical and transferable skills.
LO3: Present your findings in an appropriate scientific form.
Assessment strategy
The module will be assessed by means of two coursework components; a reflective essay (500 words; 25%) and a final dissemination (1500 words) (75%).
To pass the module students need to achieve a minimum aggregate mark of 40%.
