Module summary

This module develops advanced knowledge of supply chain analytics and information management systems that support strategic and operational decision making in Logistics and Supply Chain environments.

The module examines how data acquisition, predictive analytics, and performance measurement tools can be used to improve planning, forecasting, and operational efficiency across global supply networks. Key topics include enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, digital supply chain technologies, business intelligence tools, and decision support systems.

Students will also explore challenges related to data governance, system integration, and cybersecurity within digitally enabled supply chains. Through applied case studies and analytical exercises, the module aims to develop students’ ability to interpret supply chain data and support evidence-based decision making in complex logistics and operational contexts.

Balance of independent study and scheduled teaching activity

Teaching and learning will consist of a combination of classes and guided study, totalling 36 hours of contact time. Students will have the opportunity to engage with ideas and apply them to a variety of scenarios, exploring challenges, considering possible solutions, and reflecting on outcomes. The module is structured to encourage active participation and thoughtful engagement, allowing students to develop understanding in a supportive learning environment.

A range of tasks is included to promote the development of analytical, evaluative, and critical thinking skills. Independent study is used to consolidate learning, extend understanding, and encourage reflection, enabling students to progress at their own pace and build confidence in their approach to the material.

Feedback is provided throughout the module to support students in developing understanding and improving approaches to tasks. It is designed to be timely, constructive, and practical, encouraging reflection and continuous development. Study is further supported through access to learning resources, recommended reading, and other materials, with opportunities for additional guidance provided as the module progresses.

Learning is also supported through the University’s virtual learning environment (VLE), which provides access to module materials, resources, and case studies. The VLE offers additional opportunities for engagement and guidance throughout the module.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this module, students, operating independently and applying advanced knowledge and professional skills, should be able to:

LO1 Critically evaluate the role of information systems and data management in supply chain decision making.

LO2 Analyse supply chain performance using quantitative and predictive analytics techniques.

LO3 Apply data visualisation and business intelligence tools to support logistics planning and forecasting.

LO4 Assess the impact of digital technologies on supply chain integration, visibility, and operational performance.

LO5 Evaluate risks associated with data governance, cybersecurity, and information management in global supply chains.

LO6 Communicate analytical findings and operational insights using appropriate professional frameworks and decision support tools.
