Module summary
This module supports students to further develop their professional and academic skills, including their practical and conceptual understanding of the codes, conventions and issues associated with curatorial display. Students are expected to synthesise the experience and knowledge gained over the course, and employ a range of transferable skills in communication, negotiation, analysis, project planning and project management.
The module includes lectures and workshops to support students to produce an exhibition proposal, a working document that they will continue to develop, test and revise over the course of the year. A schedule of tutorials, supervision, technical input and workshops, as appropriate are available to enable students to realise their plans in the form of a Degree show exhibition at the end of the module.
There are three components of assessment for the module: the realised Exhibition; an accompanying Artist’s Statement; the exhibition proposal, including a Risk Assessment and Exhibition Agreement.

Module aims
The module aims to enable students to:
- test out approaches to presentation and engagement with audience through direct involvement in exhibitions of their own work;
- develop academic knowledge and professional understanding, through critical and practical studies;
- develop a sustainable and professional approach to practice as an artist/photographer

Learning and teaching
This module is supported through a range of approaches to teaching and learning, including lectures, tutorials and workshops. At the core of the module is the student’s own Degree show project proposal and self directed development, through testing and analysis of approaches to presenting their own work in the form of an exhibition. Students are encouraged to seek out opportunities to exhibit their work throughout the year and to work collaboratively in planning the over-arching exhibition, events during the exhibition and publicity material for it.
Learning outcomes
On completing the module, the student should be able to:
- Demonstrate presentation skills and an ability to interact effectively with audiences;
- Document their practice in appropriate forms to communicate their intentions both visually and in writing;
- Negotiate and interact effectively with others, employing team work skills as appropriate;
- Comprehend the ethical implications of their practice, such as environmental, social or economic;
- Apply informed critical judgement in relation to their art practice and its presentation.
Assessment strategy
There are 3 assessment items:
Exhibition - a planned presentation of a final body of work in the form of an exhibition prepared and finished by the student, selected to work within the constraints of the available space and to meet with health and safety requirements.
Artist’s statement - word processed (500 to 750 words)
Exhibition proposal with Risk Assessment and Exhibition Agreement.
Work will be assessed against the learning outcomes in relation to the following criteria:

- Quality of analysis and interpretation
- Subject knowledge and relevance
- Quality of communication and presentation
- Appropriate use of problem solving, testing and experimentation
- Management of own learning and personal professional development
