About the course and its strategy towards teaching and learning and towards blended learning/e-learning
This BSc Digital Business Management course has been designed to equip learners with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills desired by employers, and will therefore contribute to success in students’ careers. The program provides a solid basis for those wishing to develop a career in a contemporary business related field within private, public and voluntary sector organisations.
It is particularly aimed at students who want to enhance their skills and career prospects with sufficient understanding of the latest enabling technologies so as to foresee, plan and manage initiatives in the current and emerging business environment. The programme will seek to develop skills appropriate, but not restricted to, graduate careers in business with the potential for management positions and general employability for home and international students. It will do so by introducing the context of digital business in subjects, such as strategy, innovation and organisational behaviour. These subjects are the core of the contemporary business world.

In the current era of digital innovation while Amazon is as much a retailer and supply chain powerhouse as it is a digital innovator, Ford is realising that its future competition may include the likes of Google as well as smaller motor companies using crowdsourcing and 3D printing. This course offers stimulating and innovative platform by introducing cutting edge subject areas. It is designed with the involvement of industry and it is aimed to be taught at the intersection between academy and application.
This program has been designed to bridge the gap between understanding aspects of technology and business skills and provide development opportunities with the relevant academic knowledge, experience and accreditation.
A holistic approach will be adapted that will allow the students to explore, learn and develop their business knowledge in digital business environment. The course utilises a blended learning approach to teaching and learning through a mixture of interactive workshops, seminars, business simulation, case studies, use of Web Learn and independent guided study time.
Students are provided with opportunities to analyse and discuss core principles and concepts and get peer and formative feedback. Workshops and seminars are designed to convey broad principles, concepts and knowledge, as well as offering students the opportunity to analyse and apply knowledge through field work, business simulations, through case studies and business management scenarios. The students will have the opportunity to do a dissertation or consultancy project. The key difference between a consultancy project study and a dissertation is that a project study does not proceed from a research problem. The purpose of a consultancy project study is to help solve an existing business problem, which is why consultancy project studies are also called applied studies.
The approach to teaching and learning on the course is to help students develop a curious, logical, and independent mind-set, which will facilitate them to set personal goals and targets beyond those prescribed by their tutors. Experiential learning is fostered as students with previous work experience, are encouraged to share with their peers and tutors. The course also utilises industry expertise through the inclusion of business problems and guest speakers. The students will be provided with guided study time to facilitate independent learning, reflection and self-development. Considering the current pandemic situation, the delivery patterns are flexible and will be reviewed on an on-going basis to allow, where required, remote learning via online platform i.e, Blackboard collaborate, blended learning and direct delivery.
In terms of developing employability skills, students will be building skills which include self-management and awareness, reflection and effective communication, team working and management, contextual awareness, sustainability and a wide range of generic skills to ensure they become effective in the workplace, to the benefit of themselves, their employer and the wider economy.
Course aims
Aim of the course:
This programme will specifically equip its graduates to:
• Progress towards achieving their goals as an employee, manager or entrepreneur and leader in business or the non-profit sector, or pursue further study.
• Develop their detailed knowledge and understanding of business practices in order to meet the changing needs of how the business world operates in the digital era.
• Develop relevant transferable and practical skills to enhance their own personal development and employability, including ideas generation and setting up a new venture or business.
Objectives of the course:
1. To promote employability and competences: designed to equip students to confidently formulate, lead and execute innovation initiatives and develop new business models for existing and insurgent organisations. The basic premise of the course is to help students meet employers’ needs within the rapidly transforming business environment.
2. Educational objectives: The educational objectives are to enable the students to understand the main elements of management encompassing enabling digital technologies for value creation and growth in theory and practice. Moreover, special consideration will be provided to generate, evaluate and apply new ideas and concepts to the business planning process. To provide opportunities for the development of leadership, teamwork, collaboration, communication and planning skills as well as to foster the ability to undertake independent business research.
Course learning outcomes
The learning outcomes are based on the integration of the QAA Benchmark statement for Business and Management (2019) the Chartered Management Institute’s (CMI) requirements for the Level 6 Diploma in Management and Leadership.
On successful completion of this course students will be able to: demonstrate confidence, resilience, ambition and creativity and will act as inclusive, collaborative and socially responsible professionals in their discipline. (ULO)
Thus, upon graduating with an honour’s degree in Digital Business Management students will typically:
1. Have the confidence needed to take leadership decisions in challenging situations (LO1).
2. Possess the necessary communication skills that will help them adopt a global and multicultural perspective in their professional context (LO2).
3. Be cognisant of the effects of the social and environmental of their decisions and will remain active citizens of the places they live and work (LO3).
4. Demonstrate application of creative thinking skills to practical problems, and possess the analytical and organisational skills to translate creative ideas to operational digital business management solutions (LO4)
5. Have a wide knowledge and understanding of the broad range of areas of digital business and the detailed relationships between these and their application in practice (LO5).
6. Consistently demonstrate a command of subject-specific skills as well as proficiency in generic skills and attributes (LO6).
7. Have a view of digital business management influenced by a wide range of learning sources, based on a proactive and independent approach to learning (LO7).
8. Be distinguished from the basic standard (threshold) of achievement by their enhanced capacity to develop and apply their own perspectives to their studies, to deal with uncertainty and complexity, to explore alternative solutions, to demonstrate critical evaluation and to integrate theory and practice in a wide range of situations (LO8)
These undergraduate attributes will be delivered primarily through 15 credit core modules, supported by a choice of elective modules, and independent learning.

Assessment strategy
The assessment diet is varied and focuses on promoting authenticity. It includes formative and summative assessments and take a variety of formats including, coursework, journal writing, portfolios, group presentations, business reports, problem-based activities, practice-based projects, group research projects, business simulations and a final dissertation. Feedback is provided on both formative and summative assessments.
Summative assessments follow current Guildhall Business School and Law’s Guidelines.
Organised work experience, work based learning, sandwich year or year abroad
The University has a policy that all undergraduates must take a Work Related Learning (WRL) module i.e. a module which requires them to directly experience and operate in the real world of work and to reflect on that episode in order to identify skill and knowledge areas that they need to develop for their career. This course provides the students options of either taking Creating A Winning Business or Learning Through Work module on level 5.
Creating A Winning Business:
In terms of promoting work related skills, the module specifically focuses on practical techniques for generating and developing new business ideas and so it help develop creative thinking. It requires students to examine market potential and prepare a “pitch” as if seeking investment. The module requires a high level of self-reliance to pursue their business idea. Students develop an understanding of the role of new ideas and frameworks in business start-ups, growth and development. For those students keen to go beyond this module and start their own business, they can apply to the Accelerator (London Metropolitan University’s incubator) for access to “seed” money, advice and support.
Learning Through Work:
This module enables students to undertake a short period of professional activity either part-time/vacation employment; work placement; not-for-profit sector volunteering or a professional project led by an employer.
Course specific regulations
There are no specified part-time structures for this course. Students on a part-time mode of study are required to take between 30 and 90 credits per academic year to complete the degree programme within the maximum time length allowed (6 years for a three-year course).
Programme planning is therefore agreed between the student and course team, in accordance with regulations on progression and completion. For part time courses, please provide details as to how the core will be studied and any default option modules that will be taken (if modules not selected within the time scales).

Arrangements for promoting reflective learning and personal development
PDP and Reflective learning are embedded throughout the curriculum. Reflective learning and personal development planning are central to the students’ academic and career development – it is linked to assessment throughout the curriculum and is a formal element of formative feedback in several modules for the development of this key skill. Moreover, business simulation will also facilitate the students to reflect on their learning and development.

Career, employability and opportunities for continuing professional development
The course includes a number of business management related activities during the academic year as well as number of career oriented workshops which help students to identify and develop key employability skills. Presentations by industry experts are included and students are able to participate in workshops designed around identified self-development issues.
At all levels students can present their ideas to a variety of business people from London Metropolitan University’s business incubator, the Accelerator. These initiatives are linked to improving the students’ employability prospects and their transferable skills.

In addition to the University's standard entry requirements, you should have one of the following:
- a minimum of grades CCC in three A levels in academic or business subjects (or a minimum of 96 UCAS points from an equivalent Level 3 qualification, eg BTEC National, OCR Diploma or Advanced Diploma)
- English Language and Mathematics GCSE at grade C/grade 4 or above (or equivalent)
If you don't have traditional qualifications or can't meet the entry requirements for this undergraduate degree, you may still be able to gain entry by completing our Business Management (including foundation year) BA (Hons) degree.
