About the course and its strategy towards teaching and learning and towards blended learning/e-learning

The course is structured around the eight core areas of Occupational Psychology, research methods and a dissertation as set out by the BPS, with an additional module for consultancy skills. This course enjoys an excellent reputation for offering consistently high employability year-on-year. This is due to a number of factors: clear focus on development of consultancy skills, a practitioner focus, experience of working on client based assignments and development of academic knowledge We believe that an evidence based approach, which provides students with a solid and up-to-date psychological knowledge base, is essential for future employment in the profession. This is often what marks out an occupational psychologist from a HRM specialist or management consultant. We take pride in constantly updating our course, by using recent case studies, research findings and models, aiming to stay one step ahead of the major trends in the profession.

Assessment strategy

The assessment strategy is aimed at supporting and developing the scientist-practitioner philosophy underlying the course and supports the learning outcomes and teaching strategy. This is achieved with the assessment examining both the development of knowledge and the application of this knowledge to client problems. The course has a wide variety of assessment methods and students are assessed via essays, exams, individual and group research projects, presentations and a final dissertation. Assignments are based on real-life situations and require submission of client reports and a focused literature review associated with this client report. This enables students to develop evidence-based practice throughout the course.

Organised work experience, work based learning, sandwich year or year abroad

The course has links with various employers and European universities (currently Sweden and Italy) which often arrange work placements or practical experience for students.

Course specific regulations

No specific course requirements apply to this course. It conforms to University Scheme and University Academic Regulations.
