Module summary
The Professional Consultancy / Project module serves as a capstone experience, requiring students to undertake a business-focused project designed to enhance their employability and support ongoing professional development.
As part of this module, you will complete and document an individual project that not only consolidates your learning throughout the programme but also allows you to apply your knowledge in a real-world context. It provides a valuable opportunity to demonstrate the professional competencies you’ve developed over the course of your studies.
If you are currently employed, you may choose to base your project on a work-related consultancy initiative, subject to your employer’s approval. Alternatively, you may opt for a research-based project.
You will present your project through an online presentation. This module offers a platform to showcase your professional credibility while applying your academic, business, and technical skills in a practical setting
The Professional Consultancy Project aims to:
1 , Demonstrate the ability to utilise and contextualise knowledge by applying analytical skills to a business situation or problem
2 , Demonstrate the ability to assemble a coherent and sustained piece of writing that evaluates a business/project problem/solution
3 , Create an opportunity to continue the development of a range of skills associated with research, including analysis, interpretation, written expression, formal report writing, and self-managed study
4 , Engage students in a complex, integrated activity that will consolidate and integrate previous skills and learning
5 , Provide students with a ‘showcase’ opportunity that allows them to demonstrate their ability to apply the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the course to a significant and specialised task
Those studying on a Student Visa will only be able to complete work-based project option of this module if it meets UKVI monitoring requirements including: approval of the placement dates and hours by a Placement Officer prior to starting the placement, submission of weekly timesheets for the hours undertaken, signed by their contact at the business and continued engagement with the Placement Officer as well as the International Student Support and Compliance Team.

Syllabus
This module builds on to material covered in the course as well as on the module The Practice of Consultancy (MN5070). In addition to supervision, there will be six sessions that will allow students to discuss methodologies and topics relevant to the module learning outcomes L1, L2, L3
Balance of independent study and scheduled teaching activity
6 sessions (learning sets) will be held to allow students to discuss relevant topics, ask questions regarding their progress and support each other. This is in addition to one-to-one supervision.
In addition to the summative elements above, the module contains the following formative element: A Project Proposal Document – you must submit an outline of your proposed project to receive feedback on.
Ongoing support and feedback will be provided throughout the module, and it is expected that all aspects of the project will be recorded and contribute to your assignments.
Formative elements do not count towards the final module grade.
Summative Elements:
1) A 10-minute recorded visual presentation which includes an 8-minute proposal of a consultancy project and a 2-minute reflection of the consultancy process
2) A 1500 word proposal of a consultancy project
Since the module is partially student-driven, some areas of investigation is to be determined by the individual student. Certain generic skills can be supported in formal classroom sessions. In addition to tuition on the advanced use of library databases and other resources, there will also be classroom sessions to prepare for consultancy skills, research, analysis and write-up.
The approach to learning is essentially action orientated with the teaching starting from what the students need to do and the theory of consulting being explained in the context of underpinning the action. The focus is the use of data to enhance understanding of an emerging theme and the development of their consultancy project.
Weblearn: will be used for the distribution of the Module booklet. It will also be used as an interactive mechanism between students and tutors, for example, to direct students to particular readings or to provide news about the module or the module content. It will also be used for the timely provision of generic feedback following formative assessment.
Learning outcomes
On successfully completing this module, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the main concepts, frameworks and processes that need to be considered when addressing an organisational project
2. Utilise appropriate research, analysis, and project management skills using digital tools
3. Reflection on their personal and professional development
