Module summary
In building on the previous module (PC6P10SDL), this module will provide opportunities for you to apply the knowledge and skills you have developed throughout the course to address a research question of your choice. It will develop your ability to conduct statistical and/or qualitative data analysis using appropriate software and platforms (where appropriate); write a complete research report in line with professional publication standards; and present your research in different ways to different audiences. In doing so, the module will equip you with a range of transferable skills necessary for postgraduate study and employment in different professions.
Syllabus
The taught component of the module will consist of workshops aligned to the stage of project progression. Topics covered in these sessions include quantitative and qualitative data analysis, report writing, and disseminating research findings.
Balance of independent study and scheduled teaching activity
You will have a project supervisor whose role is to advise and monitor progress and to intervene in the case of problems. Once the proposal and ethics are approved by supervisors and the Psychology Research Ethics Community panel (as assessed on PC6P10SDL), you will start working on your project and analyse the data independently. You will receive feedback on an initial version of the research report to ensure that interpretation and discussion is based on meaningful treatment of the data.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this module, you will be able to:
1. Conduct appropriate analyses.
2. Interpret results appropriately in terms of the research questions/hypotheses and be able to relate them to the wider theoretical context.
3. Present the research study in a report in line with professional publication standards.
