Module summary

The aim of this module is to help you gain knowledge and understanding of your subject area, and will allow you to develop skills which will be of use at higher levels. You will be conducting research into a topic relating to your course title, and to report your findings accordingly. The overall aim of this module is to provide you with fundamental subject-specific knowledge and relevant skills.

Balance of independent study and scheduled teaching activity

The students will be provided with a topic to work on, and will be briefed on research methods, resources, how to reference sources and plagiarism. This will lead to students being fully prepared to report their findings in a professional manner (18 hours).

The students will be working independently of scheduled teaching activity for a significant portion of the module, reporting to their supervisors regularly (132 hours).

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this module students will be able to:

1) Understand how research and the gathering of information can be communicated to the public in health sciences.
2) Interpret and synthesise information from a scientific article relevant to their discipline and communicate it effectively through a visually engaging poster.
3) Demonstrate the ability to present scientific information orally with clarity and confidence, responding appropriately to questions and feedback.
4) Work independently, with guidance from a project supervisor,  to plan, design, and deliver an infographic poster and oral presentation, showcasing technical and transferable skills.
