Module summary
The aim of this module is to help you gain knowledge and understanding of your subject
area, and will allow you to develop skills which will be of use at higher levels. You will
be conducting research into a topic relating to your course title, and to report your
findings accordingly. The overall aim of this module is to provide you with fundamental
subject-specific knowledge and relevant skills.

Balance of independent study and scheduled teaching activity
The students will be provided with a topic to work on, and will be briefed on research methods, resources, how to reference sources and plagiarism. This will lead to students being fully prepared to report their findings in a professional manner (18 hours).
They will have an opportunity to reflect on the process, and on the skills they acquire and develop as they progress. The students will be working independently of scheduled teaching activity for a significant portion of the module, reporting to their supervisors regularly (132 hours).
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this module students will be able to:
1) Understand how research and the gathering of information can be communicated to the public in health sciences.
2) Reflect on how the University experience relates to your personal, career and academic development—particularly in the development of technical and transferable skills.
3) Present your findings in an appropriate scientific form.
4) Demonstrate the University values through teamwork.
Assessment strategy
The module will be assessed by means of two coursework components; a reflective essay (750 words; 30%) (submission at week 6) and a final dissemination of the project (1000 words) (70%).
To pass the module students need to achieve a minimum aggregate mark of 40%.
