Module summary
This module will introduce you to core topics in the psychology of resilience and mindfulness. It will help to develop your understanding of the benefits of integrating resilience and mindfulness training and interventions into healthcare practices to support both clients’ and practitioners’ wellbeing and needs. It will explore the benefits of resilience and mindfulness interventions across the lifespan in the context of mental health, special needs, the healthcare system, at risk families and end of life issues from a cultural and systemic perspective. You will learn about family systems approaches in healthcare and explore the assessment of families, resilience, mental health promotion and empowering families towards making positive changes towards mental wellbeing. The knowledge and skills developed in the module will provide affirm foundation for employment in different healthcare settings.

Syllabus
Topics covered in the module will be drawn from: theories and research on resilience and mindfulness; the evidence base for resilience and mindfulness treatments; risk and protective factors; health awareness initiatives; family systems theories; applying resilience and mindfulness in different treatment contexts (e.g., trauma, addiction, grief); and professional and ethical practice.
Balance of independent study and scheduled teaching activity
The learning objectives will be achieved through a combination of lectures, interactive workshops, seminars, supplementary guided web-based learning, and self-managed independent study. You will be encouraged to reflect on your learning throughout the module, particularly using formative feedback, and take responsibility for identifying developmental needs.

On successful completion of this module, you will be able to:
- Critically evaluate the value of integrating resilience and mindfulness practices into healthcare as part of client’s treatment programme based on research evidence.
- Critically review core theoretical frameworks in understanding the aetiology and management of individual and family psychological difficulties.
- Understand how resilience and mindfulness practices can be integrated into key family system’s approaches.
- Demonstrate core skills in applying resilience and mindfulness practices in different settings.
