Module summary
In this module, students will start to learn Spanish and will become confident basic users, up to CEFR A1 level. Students will learn to use the language in familiar contexts through practical class activities, focusing on authentic language use. The module introduces students to grammatical structures and vocabulary, as well as focusing on reading, writing, listening, speaking, and communicative and pronunciation skills.
This is a 15-credit module taught on a semester basis, with no prior learning required. One Reading/Comprehension and an oral test assess the module. The course is structured around class time, independent learning and guided Weblearn materials.

The course is structured around class time, independent learning and guided Weblearn materials. Indicative contents will include:
• Development of listening and speaking skills
• Development of writing skills
• Development of a basic range of vocabulary and lexis
• Acquisition of simple grammatical structures

This course will follow a blended learning approach. Students will study Spanish in class and extend and consolidate their learning with the use of WebLearn and other online/paper-based resources. They will develop independent learning skills and language learning strategies. Students will work together and on their own and receive teacher and peer feedback to enable them to reflect on their learning.

On completing this module, students will be able to:
