Module summary
In this module students will develop advanced Spanish language skills and work towards becoming independent users of the target language. (CEFR Level B1/B2) Students will learn how to use Spanish in a wide range of contexts, with appropriate register. The course further extends students’ ability to use grammatical structures and vocabulary accurately. It also focuses on intercultural communication skills and cultural aspects of Spanish speaking countries.
The course is structured around class time, independent learning and guided WebLearn materials.
The module is adaptable to the language abilities of students and can be taught to students studying in different years.
Prior learning requirements
Completion of OSL075 or B1 CEFR
Syllabus
Development of listening skills in a variety of contexts and on a wide range of topics
Development of writing skills on a wide range of topics
Extension of lexis on a wide range of topics
Revision of grammar structures and introduction of new ones
Development of high level spoken accuracy and fluency, using appropriate register
Learning Outcomes LO1 - LO4
Balance of independent study and scheduled teaching activity
This course will follow a blended learning approach. Students will study Spanish during class time and extend and consolidate this with the use of WebLearn and other online based resources. They will develop independent learning skills and language learning strategies. Students will work in groups and alone and they will receive teacher and peer feedback to enable them to reflect on their learning.
Learning outcomes
The learning outcomes of this module are calibrated to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. By the end of the module students should be able to:
Speaking and listening :
1) Deliver a clear and fluent presentation using an enhanced range of vocabulary.
2) Express and discuss points of view fluently and spontaneously in a variety of social contexts.
Writing:
3) Be able to use and select different registers and styles appropriately.
4) Write clear text on a wide range of subjects; explain viewpoints on topical issues, giving advantages and disadvantages.
