Module summary
This module will take learning and experience from previous coaching-based modules and progress this learning to a more specific level. Where SP5054 dealt with generic principles and pedagogy behind coaching and teaching, this module aims to look at how the coaching process can operate in a far more varied and specific context. Within lectures you will learn about coaching in a range of different environments and under a range of circumstances, which you may well come up against in a coaching career. The module will move on from the generic theory and coaching/teaching of children, to the coaching of adults.
Practical sessions will present a series of challenging situations for you to exercise a keen problem-solving capability, and demonstrate a growing understanding of applying the underpinning coaching process in any scenario. Having learnt and developed the formulae for successful coaching, you will now be learning how to amend this depending on the situation, and become a highly effective coach.

The basic structure to teaching and learning will involve a theory driven lecture supported by an interactive practical coaching-teaching session. Lectures will provide the essential theoretical base, whereas practical sessions offer students the opportunity to apply this knowledge and its relevance in practice.
Reflective practice is a continuous element as an important employability strand and driving force in personal development. A core coaching-teaching focus is the reflective practitioner and students are guided through this process and its relevance to future employability.
