Lost or Stolen Mobile Phones

In the event of your mobile phone being lost or stolen it is imperative that you contact your service provider immediately to have a restriction placed on your cellular account. This will prevent any illegal calls being made or received from the handset.

The following advice is given by the Metropolitan Police on keeping your phone safe:

  • Records your phone's IMEI number - which is unique to each phone. If the phone is stolen, the number can then be used by police to prove that the phone is stolen and to return it to the right ful owner. The IMEI number is displayed by pressing *#06# (star, hash, zero, six, hash)
  • Get your phone property marked with your postcode and door number
  • Keep your phone out of sight when you are in public places such as when you are walking in the street
